Scratch Customs is operated by me, Ilana (ill-ah-nah) Long, out of Oakland, California. I learned the foundational skills of sneaker making at SD Custom Footwear in Jan. 2022, and have since expanded my studies to pattern making and vintage restoration all thanks to the immeasurable support and love from the global sneaker making community.

 

We’re built different. Scratch Customs was never intended to be a business, and has never had a focus on client commissions. Everything it is today was born from a passion for exploring the creative process, and a drive to empower others to engage and support each other’s creative work.

 

Scratch Customs starts and ends with community and accessibility. From stickers to restoration services, every offering on this site began as a creative endeavor that was made to share with sneaker making community as a way to spread appreciation and joy. 2.5 years into sneaker craft Scratch Customs has developed a strong focus on making the entry point to shoe craft accessible to all. I am currently partnering with Solespace Lab in Oakland, CA, providing instruction on foundational skills and access to professional grade tools to high school students throughout year.
